Santorum’s Strange Brush With Reasonability

Recently, former Senator Rick Santorum offered his former colleagues a frothy mixture of advice, which included a recommendation that Senate Republicans “take the filibuster off the table as an option against President Obama’s judicial nominations.”  Apparently, Santorum believes that Republicans will lose a filibuster fight, so it is better to avoid it altogether.  In his own words, Santorum warned “you don’t pull out a gun if everybody in the room knows it’s not loaded.”

Hearing such a thing from the same man who once compared a loving relationship between two men to “man on dog” sex is unexpected, to say the least.  Santorum refused to back down from his unapologetic rightwingery even when that very unwillingness to compromise sent him careening towards an embarassing loss to now-Senator Bob Casey.  Hopefully, his new unwillingness to fight losing battles is shared by his former colleagues in the Senate minority.
